Minister

Barb was born and raised in Southern California. She lived within 10 miles from the ocean most of her life, and loves the water, and the peace that she feels listening to the waves.

Barb's life direction was greatly influenced by a great philosophy of religions teacher that she studied with at Long Beach Junior College.

Barb attended Cal-State University in Long Beach, as a Fine Arts/ Interior Design student, and later at UCLA. After moving to Bakersfield and getting married, she was an Interior Designer in the Bakersfield and Santa Monica areas.

As providence or luck would have it, she entered the entertainment industry. While volunteering to support the first "Survival Sunday," a benefit musical event to educate the world on the effects of Nuclear War; she worked with Bonnie Raitt, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, some of the Doobie Brothers, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and lots of celebrities at the Hollywood Bowl. As a result, a door was opened for her that gave her entry into the music and film industries. Barb worked in Publicity, Advertising and Public Relations for the next 15 plus years, often supporting non-profit organizations such as Free Arts for Abused and Neglected Children, a cause very close to her heart.

In 1978 she discovered the Course in Miracles and began to study it with a couple of friends in Venice California. During that period of time, she also attended the Lakeshrine Self-Realization Fellowship on Sunset Blvd and was deeply influenced by the wonderful teachings of Parmahansa Yogananda, an enlightened Hindu man of great wisdom and spiritual substance.

Barb read and processed many books on personal growth, psychology, Neuro Linguistics, metaphysics, world religions, body/mind/spirit connection and attended many workshops and seminars to assist her inner work.

She was always open to the insights of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, Emily Cady, Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Eric Fromm, Wayne Dyer, Ilyanla VanZant, Robert Schuller and so many more. The author that radically changed her life's course was Dr. Ernest Holmes, the founder of "The Science of Mind."

In 1980, she found the Science of Mind, by Dr. Ernest Holmes, and Barbara's spiritual life was propelled to a greater excitement. She had found her spiritual home in the common threads of spiritual truth found in all the worlds great faith, and Religious Science embraced them all. Barb loved the universal nature of the Science of Mind teaching and knew her life would never be the same.

Being a perpetual student, Barb attended Glendale Church of Religious Science on a regular basis, until she met and fell deeply in love with her beloved teacher Dr. Dominic Poliferone. In 1988 she began to take classes with him at the Hollywood Church of Religious Science, founded by Dr. Robert Bitzer. She studied for three years with Dr. Dominic. Eager to learn and compare teaching styles, Barb decided to take classes from Helen Street at the Glendale Church of Religious Science at the same time.

During this time, her call to ministry became very apparent. After the death of Helen Street in July of 1992, Barb decided to move closer to her family in Long Beach, California. In 1992 she transferred her credits to the Huntington Beach Church of Religious Science and the Ernest Holmes School of Ministry, which was founded by Dr. Peggy Bassett, the past International New Thought President, and an important influence and mentor to Barb. She was blessed to be in the last couple of classes that Dr. Peggy taught on Leadership in the ministry.

Barb became a licensed Practitioner in 1993, at the Huntington Beach Church. In 1994, Dr.'s Frank and Anita Richelieu were ready to train their last group of minister's. Barb felt this was a wonderful opportunity to work with such great teachers and Dr. Frank was trained by Dr. Ernest Holmes. During her training Barb worked for Rykoff/Sexton, a food service company, and sold gourmet foods to many five star restaurants and hotels in the Orange County area.

After seven years of study in May of 1996 Barb passed her oral and written exams at the annual conference at Asilomar, and by November of 1996, she was called to her first church in Toledo where she continues as the Pastor and spiritual leader today.

In the summer of 2003, Barb began to work with Dale Carnegie Training as a Training Consultant. During that time she participated in many trainings including the Leadership Training for Managers, High Impact Presentations, Breaking Free of Negativity, and the course most known through out the world The Dale Carnegie Training.

In the summer of 2004 the New Beginnings congregation decided to rename the church to reflect a shift in the collective consciousness. The new name is Sacred Threads Spiritual Center.

Barb has spent more than half of her life on the spiritual path. She knows the power of being genuinely ones self and lives in contact with her Master Teachers. She is a direct and committed teacher of Universal Wisdom and she remains open to learning from others as she believes we are all students as well as teachers. Contact with Barb will be a learning and transformational experience. She uses unconventional methods that lead us within to our personal connection to Source.

Rev. Barb and her center are very active in the Multifaith Council.

She and her colleagues of other faiths build a home for Habitat for Humanity every year. She deeply enjoys working with people from other faith traditions as she deeply honors the many paths that connect us all to God.

Barb believes that expanding our compassion for others would help create peace on earth. Barb is passionate about the importance of teaching children about Oneness and everyone's God Connection. She feels that if we could raise the children in touch with their sacred connection to their Source and their inherent value, the world could live in peace one precious day. She feels it is our responsibility to demonstrate respect, love and appreciation for the gift of life we all share.

Barb lives, breaths and teaches the importance of communication in our lives. Her life is focused on our Oneness, Compassion, Authenticity, Wholeness, Truth and Love that is experienced thru daily spiritual practice. She is honest and direct and believes in applying nonviolent communication as a tool for peaceful relationship. She is an advocate for the practice of Nonviolence and is the task force chairman for the Season for Nonviolence in Toledo Ohio.

Please know, that wherever you are, God Is!

God Bless You and Yours.
